Wine Tasting

The Highlands Historical Society and The Highland Hunt jointly sponsor a tasting of local wines and beer. Light hors d’oeuvres will be served to accompany the variety of offerings from local and regional vineyards and brew-pubs. Fee charged. Reservations are required.

Community Day

witchCome play historic games, sample 18th-century style ice cream, watch (or learn!) Colonial dancing, see Canalside Retrievers demonstrate training that every well-behaved dog should know, and help show guests how to work with their dogs to achieve this level of training.

Hobbits at The Highlands

July 14-18 9am-noon

Calling all Hobbit writers! Create your own hobbit character and house, then go on a writing quest with rhymes, riddles, and exciting tales of wizards, dragons, trolls and elves. Bring your Hobbit appetite for writing and join in the fun! Sponsored by the Young Writers, Young Readers project of West Chester University. Summer Fun at The Highlands

August 11-15, 10am-2:30pm

An exciting day camp that makes history fun! Campers will spend mornings in the Mansion & Gardens learning about historic crafts, colonial games, gardens, and daily life on a country estate. Afternoons will be spent at Pennypack Farms at The Highlands learning about plants and organic farming. Includes a field trip to another local historic site. Suitable for children ages 8 -12. The Highlands Hunt Breakfast

witchwitchWatch the horses set out from The Highlands at 10:00 or come to witness their return at about 11:30 and learn about the history of horses and hounds in Whitemarsh. Come at noon to enjoy a Continental breakfast in the Mansion, which will include a sampling of the tastiest specialties of local bakeries. A quartet from The Orpheus Club of Philadelphia, the oldest men’s choral group in the city, will entertain the crowd with seasonal musical selections. Admission fee charged. Reservations required.

The Craft Show is celebrating its second year at the Germantown Academy Field House, just one mile down the road. A wide variety of talented craft artists display their goods Saturday 10AM-5PM & Sunday 10AM-4PM. Admission Charged.

 

Lunch with Santa

witchJoin us for cheer and celebration as Santa and Mrs. Claus visit The Highlands for a light lunch, photo opportunities (please bring your camera), make a craft project, and a reading of that seasonal classic, The Night Before Christmas. A very special edition of The Night Before Christmas, which features Santa landing his sleigh and eight reindeer on the roof of The Highlands, will be available for purchase. Reservations are required, and each child must be accompanied by an adult. Admission is $15 per person/Highlands Members and $18 per person non-members.

witchThe Highlands Historical Society will welcome The Copeland String Quartet, with a chamber music performance in the grand center hall. Premium Estate Teas from Jaya Teas, sweets and savories are served during intermission. Tickets are $20 per person for Highlands Members, $25 per person for non-members. Reservations are required.
