Story Time Tuesdays

March 03, 2020

Postponed until further notice as instructed by Montgomery County protocol due to Covid-19. We are excited to announce Story Time Tuesdays. Each week at 10:30 am, you are welcome to bring children of any age for outdoor story time on our garden terrace. If it rains, we will move inside the mansion. We had such a wonderful turn out for story time during the summer that we will be continuing year round. We are happy to promote the importance of reading to children in our community and will gear the fall session towards children under five years of age. We will also incorporate some singing and play time following the reading. Follow us on Instagram for up to date details @thehighlandsmansion

We will not be holding story time on December 10th or 24th. On December 3rd and 17th, we will be collecting new and gently used books to donate to Children's Hospital!  On December 31st, we will be having a Special Edition story time at 11:30 to celebrate Noon Years Eve with a balloon drop at 12:00pm!! Just $5 per child

Virtual Fairy Festival

May 31, 2020

UPDATE: Since we aren't able to hold this event today, please visit our VIRTUAL FAIRY FEST on our YouTUbe channel https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QlBneVzpIQw

Fairies, Pirates and Mermaids, oh my!! We will be holding a Fantasy Festival on Sunday, May 31st from 1-4. It will be a day of imagination come to life as the garden is transformed in to a whimsical land to explore and play. For what would be The Highlands' 5th Annual Fairie Festival, a few fantastic changes have been made so that everyone can enjoy a day of dress-up, escape and fun!

Families will be enchanted by the fairy-themed garden walk, a music performance by the Plymouth Whitemarsh High School Chamber Ensemble, craft projects, dancing, games, Mermaid fountain and Pirate activities.  Dressing up is highly recommended! Children will be able to construct fairy gardens of their own, discover buried treasure and visit with a bubble Fairy, real mermaid and get photos taken with Bianca the magical (six foot stuffed) unicorn! Do you dare explore the dark fairy tunnel, play the troll toss game or walk the plank?! Stop by our snack vendors and creative crafting vendors too! Immerse yourself in a day of carefree fun! Please help us prepare by sending an email to Dana at rentals@highlandshistorical.org to make your reservation today as this has proven to be our most popular children's event! Proceeds from the Fantasy Festival go towards the continued restorations of the mansion and gardens. With member and community support, The Highlands will continue to preserve the history of this hidden gem of Fort Washington and offer the estate's beautiful open space for all to enjoy. Admission is $10 per person and will be collected at the gate upon arrival. Arrrrrrgh you ready?!
